I've been unable to locate information on the stock wheel options for '86 CJ7 . Was the steel spoke rim, similar to the late '70's CJ7 's, an option?

Thx,

Ed

Yes, I think the option was either white or chrome.

Ed, under "docs" dowmload the parts manual for CJ7s. All of the wheel options are listed in this document. However, it shows the chrome wheel as 8 in wide, but mine is stamped 7 in, so not sure what's up there. Rod

I think the difference may have been, the G.Y. Tracker PG's and AT's used a 7" wheel and the optional G.Y. Wranglers used an 8". That's just a guess on my part. Mine came with the Renegade package in 82 with the PG's and 7" rims. The Laredo 's came with the Wrangler tires and they might have used the 8" rims, not sure.

Early models were 15x8 (narrow trac axles). Later models were 15x7

81 was the only year of 15x8 that were drilled for factory center cap mounting.

Stamped steel was standard 15x6 with 205/75/15
White spoke and chrome spoke were optional. 235/75/15

I saved my 1986 Jeep Sales Brochure. I scanned the page for you with the Wheel info.

Interesting. The 205's that came on Dad's 85 Scrambler were Michelins (still have them in the shop). Wonder if that's another AMC "whatever we have will work" or if they changed tire brands on the base model from 85 to 86

One bit of info is the chrome center caps like shown but for the fronts with open ends do not fit over aftermarket locking hubs.

Speaking of front center caps, this thread is supporting my thoughts of why I have 15x7 chrome wheels on my 79 CJ7 with front center caps drilled out that don't fit. Sounds like a set of wheels from a newer jeep that the po didn't really give a lot of thought too. Any comments? Thanks Rod

Actually they work with Superwinch hubs and also with EARLY Warn 5 bolt hubs.

I have one of each....:D

Good luck finding the early Warn hubs. I've only seen two sets of them. One I bought on ebay around 2002, the other sold on another Jeep board before I saw the ad and could jump on them.
