- 1979 CJ-7 with a fiberglass body and 1982 wide track axles, 258 I-6 with a 1995 4.0 head, HEI distributor, Motorcraft 2100 Carb, T-18 wide ratio tranny, Super Lift Springs and 33s, a 1997 BMW 328i, and a 2010 REDLINE CONQUEST TEAM Cyclocross Bike. :)
I found the part number for the 1995 4.0 YJ dual diaphram brake booster that everyone seems to recommend. It's 54-73153. I found numerous sources for these at reasonable prices, including Advance Auto.
My questions are, what master cylinder to run? I take it the CJ master cylinder will not work with the YJ booster? Some say use a 95 YJ MC, while others talk about using one from a Dodge 3500 or even a Mercury. A lot of the threads I've found are regarding 4 wheel disc brakes. I plan to stick with my drums in the rear for now, so I don't need a higher volume MC. Would the YJ MC be best for disc front/drum rear????
My next question is, since I plan to buy a new booster instead of a boneyard one, which I haven't been able to find anyway, where can I buy the YJ bracket for the booster. I take it the CJ bracket won't work, even if it's modified because the YJ booster rod goes straight to the brake pedal.
This ties in to my last question. Since the YJ booster rod to the brake pedal has to be lengthened, has anyone ever just made their own bracket or modified one to move the booster closer to the firewall so the rod length can be left alone? It seems to me that this would help with the air breather space issues that are inherant in 6 cylinder CJ's with the YJ booster.
