I just did a hydraulic clutch conversion on my 1980 CJ7 . Do I still need the clutch pedal return spring or can I remove it now? It seems to me that it may no longer be necessary and is just creating more resistance to pushing on the pedal. Thanks!

Solution
I would definitely keep it. You don't want the pedal putting unnecessary pressure on the slave cylinder causing throw out bearing wear.

I converted to a hydraulic, removed the heavy spring and put in a smaller one. I read somewhere about putting a foam strip soaked in motor oil in the spring center will stop the squeaking. Did that too and its very quiet.
That's probably what I will end up doing. Do you remember where you got the replacement spring and what it was?

A local company called Sasco. They had a large selection of springs, I bought a few and found one that worked. No idea the part #, sorry. I did not use the original mounting points, moved it do different holes

How did you remove the old spring?

That was hard. I tried removing the snap ring and got it to slide some but no go. So I cut it with an angle grinder. It's very awkward to get your hands in there with good vision. My clock was out so I could look through the hole
