I have actually seen a few good rattle can jobs. It's all about the prep.
Both went with satin clear coats and a cut and buff.

Did you use a clear coat to? or was it a gloss or satin paint. it still looks good for 7 yrs.Mine is rattle can going on 7 years now

Satin no clear coat just wax it once or twice a year. Here's what it looked like when it was fresh. I'm going to be repainting it in the coming months or early next year with real paint custom matches for classic military Jeeps in a single stage acrylic

I rattle-canned my old '77 CJ5 with semi-gloss. Even used the spray cans to "blend" in the flames using yellow, orange, and red colors by over spraying at an angle while the prior ones were still wet. Blue painters tape to mask it all off and an exacto knife to cut the tape on my sharpie marks for the flame pattern. Did use a clear coat afterward also.
That came out nice, What spray paint did you use(Brand Name)

Biggest thing you will run into with any compressor especially a smaller one will be moisture in the line unless you put in line dryers. Also 49 psi is pretty high for painting.

I just did some spraying today. I use devilbliss spray guns (finish line 3 for primer and GTI millennium for paint) here's some pics plus my compressor. ( I use 2 in line dryers) If you look closely you can see a CJ7 fender hanging up that I sprayed while doing the GTO

NAPA once did paint matching by VIN number in my area, but in recent years they gave up on it. I hit a paint shop and they wanted $95 for a spray can. Since mine is basic black I went with conventional affordable paint. After polishing it looked rather well.
