Rear Axle Relocation

Yeah pretty much. They are meant 2.5" wide, so they might not work with his springs. Interesting idea though.

Here's a bad pic of the ones I have

:)

Hey JR, what did you find out?...........were all ears.

:D:D:D:D

nothing yet. Had some hunny-do's this weekend, and was lazy the rest.

If memory serves me, the shackle angle is slightly leaning backwards (away from axle) as you describe.

I do have a full set of directions from Rockyridge now that should help me ensure I didn't do anything "wrong" during install like flip spring orientation etc.

I thought about the locator offset like those, or even the perches made for spring over that have multiple holes available for the spring centering pin, but am hesitant... Can't imagine the axle not sitting where intended on the springs is good for it... but it is still an option on the plate...

I'm going to bring the directions home tonight, and if the weather cooperates, take a few photos around the jeep as well.

Here's a couple photo's from my test run wheeling at the local OHV park.

You can't tell much from these photo's, but they are kinda cool

I don't have any with good pictures of full flex. This was just a small rock perching posing photo lol

are those 33" tires??:wtf:

are those 33" tires??:wtf:

Yes sir... 33's Doesn't look like much lift does it? And that also has a 1" body lift. I'm not thinking i got my 3-3-1/2" lift from this kit...

JR, is the tub in the correct location? Or can you move it forward a bit?

Good thought... I have 1 broken body mount, but otherwise still the same mounts and never had the body off... I may be able to "fudge" slightly, but shouldn't be the problem...

Consider this;:D

When the spring flexs it moves toward the shackle end. Where is your wheel when the spring is compressed to the point it will drag the tire on the fender. there is a possibility that the top of the fender will be the first metal to contact the tire.

I guess what I am saying is that it is just where it should be.

When flexed, the corner of the wheel well is first to contact the tire.

When I finished the suspension and Transmission swap project (all at once) i went to put my exhaust mufflers back on and had to cut the turnouts because they hit the tires. I should have investigated further at that time...

I know the axle moved forward, just don't know why...

I really got to get you guys some good pictures to see...

My brother said my pinion angle was moving pretty far when I had it in the bolders and applied torque to it... I think I'm not done with the upgrades yet...

Do need to fix the axle location though one way or another...

Jr. cj and I believe yj springs have the pin centered, so even if they were on backwards it shouldn't matter. At least not for this.
Can you measure your old springs from the center pin to the frame eye along the spring and see if the new ones are the same.
Also how much arch do you have in them.
Still wating on pic's

I plan to bring the old girl into work tomorrow. I have a forklift here, so will get you all some flexing pics. :D:D

There "should" be 3" arch in them, but I think if anything they're 2-1/2". One of the problems may be they had medium duty and heavy duty... when I asked, they said medium should work fine for me, I think I should have gotten the stiffer heavy duty. I wanted better ride on road and flexing off road though... Thought medium would be sufficient.

Im pretty sure I told you awhile back to get a longer wheelbase Cj. :D

Yes my friend... You did... :notworthy:

I'm one of those "hard headed have to learn for myself" kind of guys i suppose! lol

JR, That heavy duty version might only consist of an add a leaf, so you won't have to buy another spring set.

:)
You should be fine with the softer spring..........if anything again on the rear axle the tire should be traveling towards the rear and not coming forward. The only way it comes forward is if the shackle is at a negative angle.

Did you have to mount new front ( of rear spring ) hangers? or for that matter did you mount new ones in the rear?

:D:D:D:D

I'll take the pics today. Have the jeep here at work. The shackle ride angle looks correct to me, but I may be wrong.

The kit I bought for the wider YJ OME springs provided 6 out of 8 new spring / shackle mounts. The only 2 that were not modified or changed were the rear shackle hangers. These were adapted with off-set / adapter shackles. They widen to accommodate the larger spring from the stock mount.

Hi Guys,

Jr, could you take a side shot of the rear shackle on a flat surface and flexing. Could be the angle of the pic, but looks to be a bit past 90* towards the front on the driver side shackle. Again, could be the angle.

Those were the old springs and shackles on that picture. But yes, I'll take a few pics today. have a forklift here too so should be able to give you all the sitting flat photos as well as full flexing photos.

I plan to send these to rockyroad outfitters as well... just to see if they see anything "funny"...
