1973 CJ5 304 STOCK, EVERYTHING FAR AS TRANSMISSION AND TRANSFER CASE IS STOCK AS WELL.
I am looking to replace my back up lights on my 73 CJ5 . I can't seem to find the ones that look like the ones on there now. I wanted to get some feedback on some replacements others have done, what brand and hopefully some pics of it as well. thanks

Trying to keep the 73 look I found these small clear lights. Not very bright. But that's what spotters are for . . . .:D

The OEM backup lights are available so I guess you want something different then stock. Lot of choices out there. Mike

I added some extra lights on back, wired to a toggle switch for more light on the trail out back. I think it was a kit from KC lights. I mounted both lights on my bumper. I still have reverse lights with the tail lights.

I've seen some that say oem replacements but i am guessing the ones i have are not oem because they are way different looking. I really only need a lens for one side, the other is ok but i can't find anything that looks like that lens. I was just going to replace both because of that reason.

I've seen those and will most likely end up getting them. On one of my pics you can see the back up light lens. The lens it self is a lot bigger than what the omix-ada is. Mine sticks really past the gas cap.

How about a pic of what you want then? I have a 72 with original backup lights and they use the lenses I posted.

I'll see if i can find a better pic of them. If the lens will work i'll just buy two of those lenses you showed me. Thanks a bunch!

The lenses are held onto the base by a wire type snap ring - there are no screws. Are yours that way?

Those are not original then, I will snap a pic tonight of an original one or just look here -->> Back-Up Lamp Assembly With Socket, Bulb and Wiring 945659

If you look closely you can see the wire clip ring holding the lens to the body. There is a gap at the bottom so you can pry the clip out.

Since you lamps aren't original you'll just have to measure and shop around, but stll snap a pic as someone might recognize them.

A bad shot showing mine.

Those 72-75 CJ backup lights are fairly easy to find. I picked up a new set late last year off of ebay IIRC but I saw them in plenty of other places too. They are the type with the "bubble" lens and the snapring affixing it to the body of lamp.

They aren't 100% identical to stock, but they are really, really close.

Yeah seems like the route i may be taking. I don't know where these lights came fromon here now. My grandfather had the jeep previously. Does anyone know if there is a unit that has the brake light and reverse light all in one that they make for a 73 CJ5 ? I'm sure they have a universal if nothing else. Haven't seen one yet but just started looking in that as an option as well.

73 CJ5s did have the same bulbous lens as did all Intermediates 72-75. 76 and up had a combo light.

I've found odd ball lens covers on grainger.com a few times. Might be worth a look.
