1977 passenger side someone has tried to replace it using the wrong tools and stripped the Torx bolts completely rounded. Drill out to start or try different tactic? thanks for any advise

I'd probably try grinding a screwdriver slot with a Dremel, then let some PB Blaster spend some time on it -- then see if I could get it out with a screwdriver.

I would drill the head off with a 1/2 inch drill. this takes the head off and leaves enough bolt to get a hold of with vice grips. PB blaster the heck out of it. If you try the slot idea you can still drill it later. Is there any way you can weld a nut on the head? this will give you something to grab and the heat will generally make the bolt come out easily. Kind of hard on paint.
:D

Well as I remember the lower hinge has nuts on the backside and turning the nut to loosen while holding the screw is by far the easiest way to loosen a nut/screw combination. At any case drilling out the screw will not be destructive beyond the screw and nut if it comes to that. On the upper half of the hinge the frame has captured or welded in nuts and the way I remove something in this case is to drill out in size steps untill I get to the threads and at that point if I can't pick the remaining threads out I will run a tap through to clear. I have done this many times with success and vertually zero success using an easy out and I used to start thinking that way but now I just skip to the drill it out scenario being carefull not to damage the existing threads.

I'll go with drill it out also, at least with torx bolts you have a hole in the center to start with.:D

i agree X2 with old dog, sasquach and IO.

i have had to get bolts out of old iron burgular bar doors before ( kinda the same situation) ive used left twist drill bits and left twist bolts, snap on extractors....but one thing that is easy for me that is in my tool box now is the Alman grabit. I would drill the head off, then PB blast, go work on something else for awhile then come back and use the tool SLOWLY ( have broken a few )
plus its a good tool to have
thats what has worked for me

Thanks for all the Ideas I got the paint cleaned off and the bottom out the tops I am going to drill the head of cause I have new hinges so i am not worried about Drilling it . Thank again

Success Minimal drill time, easy out from my grandpa's tools from the 50's still pullin'm out ! Anyone one ever Changed the Wiper motor Out or know where i can download the technicians manual at? thanks for all the help
