Hey Guys,

What is the best way to install the CJ7 /8 one piece front floor (the one that goes from the firewall to behind the front seats and has all the supports on the underneath)? Is it just straight up welding or something else. I new to this so I'm looking for some guidance. I'm also planning on welding in a new 18 guage sheet metal bed.

Also any tips for removing the old floor. I'm about 80% done with it but I'm sure there is a better way than just cutting the old one out. Especially for the corners where there is overlap.

Thanks for the help!

I think they are spot welded together so the best way to dismantle it would be spot weld cutting drill bits, should be available at Eastwood. Eastwood will also have the pins and clamps you need to hold it together while you re weld the spots. You bit off a pretty big chunk with this one , I hope you are taking lots of pictures. I would like to see how you go about this.

Thanks for the help. Just about every day I realize for a different reason I am in way over my head on this project. What I lack in knowledge I make up for in the time and space I have to work on the jeep though! I'm learning a lot as I go and even if for some reason I can't finish it, it will have been worth doing it just for the experience.

I am taking a lot of pictures, but am planning on waiting til I'm somewhat done to post an actually build thread because I figure that way I can keep your guys' attention with a couple big posts rather than dragging it out over a year!

don't sweat it kid, we got nothing but time.
There is a lot of room for creativity in this game but it saves a lot of time and expense when you try not to reinvent the wheel every time you turn around.
All I would suggest is you do the research first and then if you find yourself out on the bleeding edge you can unleash the creativity. There will be more than enough opportunities for that.
You are not over your head yet, just sufficiently challenged. :D
Now break out the camera and let us see what you got going on so far!!

Yes I do have all the replacement stuff I was planning on using. The one piece floor, a new bed, and some extra 18 guage sheet metal for little patches on the body.

See'in how you got the time and space, I would be pullin that tub off the frame and it will make your life a lot easier. You can then roll the tub around even upside down to work on it, even if you were to complete your work without removal how did you plan on painting it to prevent future rust? Yep once again a much easier project to paint and you will also have the option of sandblasting all those areas underneath the tub that are impossible when mounted.
It's only time....;)

Though I didn't start this project in the fall planning on taking the tub off... plans have changed as usual. I completely agree with you Sasquach and now that I have the space I have begun to neatly take everything off possible. I got all the wiring off yesterday and have already gotten all the body mounts out except for the two front ones where I will need to cut them out due to rust around the screws.

I wasn't planning on painting it myself either, but hey I've come this far, why not right!?

That is about how my story goes!
I bought mine and was gona drive it for a year or two then go thru it...ended up driving it one time then just started tearing into it.

What I did with mine was use zip lock bags and label different parts groups and such as I pulled it apart so not to have a bucket full of screws and try to figure out were they all go.
The other bit of advise would be to take lots of pictures for reference when you get to reassembly.
