Hello, my fellow jeepers. I have a question. First let me start by saying this. The underneath of my ol' CJ5 has been attacked by a great amount of rust rot. My frame is excellent. I have been searching the "interweb"( as qouted from Richard Rawlings of Gas Monkey Garage fame ). Anyway i was trying to work on a budget. I found a web site called Classic 2 Current fabrication. They make replacement body panels for all sorts of automobiles. I can get all the panels to make a complete body tub. My hood is great, and my fenders are useable. My question is this. Has any body went this route of buying all new panels to build a new tub from scratch? I did the math and i can save alot of money by doing this. before i take this leap, i was hoping someone out in jeep land had accomplished this and could supply some info. Any info would be appreciated Thanks, JH. :)

I considered this once, then read some discussions regarding the idea and it scared me off.

First of all, it's not likely a savings unless you personally are an excellent welder. And then it can be a geometric nightmare. If you're off my just a touch everywhere you weld, it can add up to quite a mess when you're done. Door issues, tailgate issues, body mount issues, windshield issues and the list goes on.

In most cases, a donor tub with a little work here and there or a Willy's Overland tub are your best routes.

My 2cts.

Hadn't seen that build before. Did he have ANY metal left from the original tub? It looks like the tailgate made it through and that's about all.

The results were beautiful. I think he used the cowl area and the tailgate. :D Awesome workmanship. :notworthy:

Can't find a thing to disagree about there. I do wonder, in the end if a complete new tub would have been less expensive. Yes, not as much fun, but less expensive non the less.
