I have a 86 CJ7 . Awhile back I lost all gears except reverse, and I am thinking it is the clutch. Does anyone have any suggestions on a replacement clutch or any other ideas of what the problem could be?

please define "lost". As in won't go into gear or as in goes into gear but does nothing to move the vehicle.

It will go into gear but vehicle will not move... grinds when trying to put it in to reverse

The T-5 is not my area of expertise but I would have to say the Transmission , specifically the shift forks, would be the first thing I would be thinking about. I am going to be very surprised if changing the clutch helps very much. It may make reverse shift a little better.

X2 with IO
when you pull it i would replace the clutch as well
I would go with Borg Warner

When u do get it in gear, releasing the clutch doesnt move it?

What about with motor off, and in gear can u push the jeep freely?

The T-5 isn't a very good Transmission but to loose all gears is unlikely. It sounds like you really are getting it in gear. I am thinking its the clutch.

Okay, so you sit there with the engine running and your foot on the clutch all the way. You can shift through all the gears but when you let up off the clutch you don't move. 1st and Reverse are on different shift rails and gear sets. For both of those gears to go out is unlikely.
What happens if you get it in 3rd and try to start off. When you let off the clutch it should bog down the engine and kill it. If the engine continues to run and you are still sitting still then it would be the clutch. When the clutch goes out it usually burns out. Do you smell anything?

Yes. Busa right thats what i was trying to get at...
:notworthy:

It I start the jeep in gear it will take off... Sitting with the jeep in neutral and the clutch engaged, i can go through the gears and you the jeep will actually rock like it is wanting to go into gear but when i let off the clutch I have nothing.

I pulled the little rubber boot over the fork back and I can see it moving.

Thanks for the ideas everyone!

When it quit working I had been driving it just a few hours prior... I stopped, went move it a little later and had nothing... No burnt clutch smell, slipping or anything..

Busa, I read on another post where you helped a guy with a similar problem. You were talking about the spring the connects to the fork that runs along the side of the linkage. I checked under mine and I do not have that spring there, the ball bearing is still in place. Do you think this may be my problem as well? I just ordered the spring to replace it anyways...

:popcorn:this gets more confusing by the minute, I am totally lost.

Yes, maybe the clutch pedal really isn't disengaging the clutch. I don't think it's that little spring but it could be a problem with the clutch fork not pivoting on the ball correctly. Sometimes the clutch fork wears where the ball is the pivot. This causes the fork to move out of place.
Secure the jeep with wheel chocks and put the parking brake on. Have a friend sit in the drivers seat and press on the clutch. Make sure the jeep won't roll before you crawl under it. With the engine off make sure the clutch pedal disengages the clutch. If the clutch fork is not pivoting at the correct spot it may not disengage the clutch. With the rubber boot pulled out of the way can you see if the clutch fork is disengaging the clutch?

I'm suspecting linkage problem, or BusaDave's idea of fork pivoting incorrectly...

But what throws me off is you say if you start it in gear, it will want to move, so the clutch disc is getting enough pressure against flywheel to actually move the jeep...

So I'm With IO too... Getting confused...
