Replacement shifter

My 1984 CJ7 has the T-5 five speed. I understand Hurst no longer makes a replacement shifter. There's lots of slack in mine. Any suggestions for a replacement? How about the Mustang T-5 shifter. Will this fit and would it be long enough?

Its a bit more involved than just replacing the shifter. The Mustang had whats called a "World Class T-5 " and is a different Transmission .

My first reaction is that the isolator and clip that holds the shift lever to your shifter is worn out.
Take the shift boot loose and pull up on the shift lever. Does it come off?
If so then you need

If you really need a shifter then some of the other T-5 shifters will fit the top of your T-5 But the lever will be shorter and have to bolt on.
