I just purchased an 83 CJ7 and looking for a reputable restoration shop to do a frame off restoration with improved drive train, suspension, and steering.

How about your garage?
Your biggest hurdle will be passing CA. SMOG.

Unfortunately don’t have the time to do a restoration myself. I’ll have no problem maintaining it afterwards. As for the California smog I have that covered. Do you have any recommendations for any restoration shops in California?

Contacting a local Jeep club is where I would start.
It will not be cheap.
PLZ keep us updated.

What kind of shape is it in ? Improved drive train suspension & steering might be 10 - 20,000 dollars without frame off part. I'm doing just drive train and some steering and trying to ignore the money and I'm sure I'm over that lower number some

I agree 100% on this. I don’t know what you’re budget is, and expensive or cheap are relative terms in regards to your financial situation. But I’m halfway through a frame off with me rebuilding my motor myself, new suspension, a regent front and rear, and a newer but still needing welding work and paint tub, plus all the misc stuff you want to clean or pretty up after you start and I’m already well above $10k.

Being from the High Desert area of Southern California, we were a part of the Victor Valley 4 Wheelers when I was a kid. I believe they are still active, and may be able to steer you towards a reputable restoration shop.
