I installed a new reverse switch on my '73 CJ5 with a T-15 Transmission . I can't seem to get it to work properly. At first, the reverse lights were always on so I adjusted the switch by unscrewing it until the lights went out...with the Transmission in reverse. When I re-engage reverse, the lights stay out until I screw in the switch more. I've been doing this back and forth to find that sweet spot but it doesn't exist. Any tricks or ideas?

haven't installed mine yet, so interested to see this thread too

Also if you don't mind a slight intrusion on your thread, what is the other "plug" deal on top of the T-15 ? Other than the reverse light switch... :notworthy:

It's the Transmission controlled spark (TSC) switch which was a form of emissions control. The only thing I really know about it is that it robbed horsepower and hurt fuel economy when "open" so just about everyone doesn't connect the thing. I'm sure either CJ, 73CJ, or other would know more.

JR, when you go to install yours, the connector is hard to find. I used a connector I found at Pep Boys that I think went either to an alternator or A/C system. It's got a white cover and 2 wires and can slip right over the two prongs on the reverse plug. You just have to carve out the bottom side of the cover part. Just to make sure, I then used some RTV to hold everything in place. Good luck!

Thanks Man...

Did you ever figure out your issue?

Hate to have hi-jacked your thread...

No sweat. I found a sweet spot but I will have to hold the shift lever in reverse in order to trip the switch. Not that big of a deal.
