You'll see why soon why I titled the thread this way.. here it goes...

A couple weeks ago I was driving home from work and got stopped by a light, when it turned green I pushed in my clutch pedal and noticed there was much pressure on it.. tried to put in 1st and only got loud grinding noises, went for all gears.. Pushed to the side of the road and turned it off.

I noticed once the motor wasn't running that I could put in 1st, 2nd, 3rd and reverse, but turn the motor on and it wasn't happening except grinding noises. Long story short, I drove it home by starting the motor in 1st and slamming the gas pedal, only had to run 2 lights and a stop sign on my 30 minute drive

Got it home and let it sit until last night. With the help of a friend who knows way more about transmissions than I do, we got it off and out. Here are the pictures of what it looks like currently. I was told that it may just need a new clutch, throwout bearing, resurface but not 100% sure.

Before it just completely quit working, there was always grinding from 2nd to 3rd gear, unless I double clutched, then it was fine. I did notice a couple days before it died completely, it would sometimes grind 1st to 2nd, but not as much as my other grind. I assumed the synchronizers were bad, but if my clutch and related components were defective, wouldn't that cause the grinding issues?

I'm trying to avoid doing anything overly extensive in the Transmission box, but will if have to While it's out VS dropping it again (ugh).

Let me know any info you guys may have, what I should buy to fix it, ID the exact Transmission I have (T-150 ??), and any other tips would be much appreciated..

So here was the nightmare of what we had to do to get her out...

Since you say you have an experienced tranny guy for a friend, you might want to go buy a 12 pack and discuss it with him. Other than that I hope you at least have your e-brake on and get wheel chocks on both ends plus get some jack stands. I wish I had a pic of a guys face that I went to school with after his vehicle was jacked up similar to yours after it fell on him to show you.

Torxhead is right safety first!
A few years back I lost a third cousin that was crushed to death by his Ford PU, because he did not use jack stands and was working by himself, and the jack leaked and slowly crushed him to death, and his father came home to find him that way. Put stands & chocks under and shake Jeep, before you put your body in harms way!
Even though it is not in the air, you can still smash face or crack skull like watermelon being hammered by Gallager.
Your Transmission is a T-150 .
Your bell housing & clutch springs look like powder, so you need a clutch kit, a lot of cleaning and inspection. Drain Transmission oil and remove cover and see what you have been grinding, remove clutch, remove flywheel & resurface Take pictures of it all and post back.

The wood blocks were only used to get the one side lifted enough to get the Transmission out because I left the 4x4 shifter on. Wheels are chocked and even if it did fall, it wouldn't be much, maybe 2-3 inches (tires are still on the ground)

To get the Transmission out we didn't have to lift anything at all, the jack went up enough to hit the bottom.

I'll check out clutch kits online and see what else I can find wrong with it...

Make sure your clutch linkage is good. The way amc set it up was quite poor with a few wear points, the clutch bellcrank should be perpendicular with the frame. If not, chances are the motor mounts are sagging causing the motor to move to the rear. As far as the linkage goes, upgraded parts are available at the big box 4wd outfits like Morris,Quadratec,4WPW, and Four Wheel Drive Hardware.

:booze: looks fun to me, a good time to get everything cleaned up :chug:

Don't be stupid-get some damn jack stands under that jeep!
I'll be 64 in march. I didn't live this long by do'n stupid c'it like that picture shows with the block of wood-----
Are the 3 fingers on the clutch pressure plate, the same height?
Your heavy clutch pedal could well be a broken spring in the p'plate. BTDT-

LOL he is right on the jack stands tho, you can get some pretty cheap from Harbor freight, Sears, Auto zone etc etc just might save your life one day :chug:

put the blocks under the stands and the jack. Don't be cheap, get a good quality clutch kit and resurface the flywheel.

With that much body lift I could see where the bellcrank or linkage could have a problem.

Looking at this clutch kit... any reason as to not go with this one?

Master Clutch Kit 6 or 8 Cyl 10.50" - 5360174KM

Probably nothing wrong with that set, however if you want one faster/cheaper/ same quality as Omix Ada check out your local parts store, Orielly's has one for half the price (no clutch fork tho) unless your fork is heavily worn you dont need to replace it. List: Clutch Set - 1979 Jeep CJ5 | O'Reilly Auto Parts

What ever clutch set you buy slide them on the input shaft to verify they are the right size before you assemble it all, and get your flywheel resurfaced to :chug:

Omix-Ada=JUNK!
Go with Center force or Luk.
You ain't sav'n dime by go'n the cheap here.
Make sure you get a new pilot bearing also.
