:confused:steel or alloys what would you recommend ?
Are the steel ones heavy enough to affect the JEEP in any adverse way ?
why would you choose one over the other ?

I'm a fan of steel for offroad. If you happen to bend the steel wheel lip on a rock or something, you can pound it back in shape where as with aluminum, it's likely to crack. Aluminum may be stronger in some cases though. You're not likely to notice any difference in the weight from steel vs aluminum wheels as far as performance goes. Tires yes, wheels probably not. That's my take on it. For me, I'm not even remotely interested in aluminum.

totally agree.

I agree also. Easy maintenance and the weight difference is negligable.

Bad thing about alloy wheels, especially in situations where rocks are abundant, is that it doesnt bend. It breaks.

I hit (more like bumped) a curb last winter in my mustang and the first thing that happened was the aluminum alloy wheel broke right at the bead. I had to buy a whole set of new rims since the ones I ran were no longer made. Point is, there's no repairing them without someone who can weld alloy aluminum and those guys are hard to find.

JP magazine has a big article on tires in the April issue, and I noticed they said that nowadays, an alloy rim could weigh as much or more than a steel rim.
I prefer steel for the wheeling I do, but I am partial to a few of the alloy styles...

I run steel like the guys above, and for the same reason.
Now if it was a mall crawler, I would be running a good looking set of alloys.
