I have a 1978 CJ7 with SOA and 33" tires. I am needing some kind of side step for it and have been looking around at different rocker guards with side steps made to them. I can't use the common side step because of my sidepipes for the AMC 304 . My question was if anyone has used these types of guards and could suggest one brand over another. Some of the ones I have looked at are 4xdoctor, smittybuilt, warrior and so on. Let me know what you guys think.

Jbabb, here's an '80 CJ7 with a AMC 304 , showing side steps, tailpipe, and the busiest step attachment point at the fwd rear spring mount.

Might be some help to you. The step height is about exactly where it needs to be, for a beat-up old guy.

Exactly. That is what I have in mind for my jeep. What kind ya got there? How much?
I made them with about 50 bucks in steel. Add up all of the stuff you want on your Jeep then go price welders. I made and added to most of my stuff with a 110 welder. The 100 dollar pipe bender from Harbor Freight will work with the right tube. I do love my 220 volt gas mig now.:D

I love these High Rock Sliders, they lift and retract for ground clearance. Might not work with your exhaust though, they hang down a few inches.
