I recently purchased an all original 1986 CJ7 Laredo , something I have been after for a long time. The only problem with it, is the rusty tub. So I am looking for a rust free tub, but am struggling. Does anyone have one available, or know someone who does? Will any other Jeep model tubs work in instead?

Any help is much appreciated! -J

Almost everybody would like to find a rust free CJ7 tub the are very rare. This is why most go with a YJ tub their are a lot more out there because the don't rust like the CJ's did and the are pretty easy to fit a CJ.

I have a YJ tub for these reasons. Finding a rust free CJ tub is very hard. Mine was converted before I bought it. It has a tailgate and the fuel fill where it is supposed to be. I have no complaints with it.

I too am going that route and I have no regrets. I'm doing the corner swap to put the fuel where it belongs and keeping the CJ tailgate and tire carrier as well as the rounded rear wheel fairing.

Actually, I think if I had this to do all over again I might by a YJ and put a CJ front and dash on it along with the tailgate and tire carrier, but that's another thought for another day.

Thank you for the responses and information. Sounds like a YJ tub is the way to go. Are there certain years for the YJ that work better than others for the tub conversion? Thanks!

A "rust free Jeep tub". Hmmm, I think Bigfoot keeps those in Locness's warehouse! I believe Jimmy Hoffa has the key!

You want to look for a YJ it's the Wrangler with square headlights.

How bad is the rust? You can find replacement restoration steel fairly easy but you need to know how to weld or know somebody who does. Then there is always the fiberglass option it depends on how much money you have to throw at your jeep. I would also suggest looking around craigslist or e-bay there are always some there

I would go with the closer to 95 the better.. I know they galvanized the later years.. not sue if all of them got it. Expect to pay between 5-750 for one. alot of time its cheaper to find one with a bad motor/Transmission buy the whole jeep and part out the rest.

Indiana Jones was searching for a rust free cj tub in Raiders of the Lost Arc. I didn't see the end, did he find it? :D
