Just bought my jeep and am horrified to see a few rust holes in the frame. Understand Guam is a hot rainy climate, so rust is inevitable.

My question is the best way to address this issue. I have a fiberglass kit that was given to me. Is this a real solution? My other urge is to buy a mig welder and cut and replace the rusty areas. Any advice or personal experience?

Thanks!

Fiberglass will not work on a frame you will need to cut out the rust and weld in new steel

Get the mig!! There should be someone on base that knows welding...get um to help you out/learn.

We have a ton of guys here on the ship who can weld, so i can talk them into helping.

I didn't think that a fiberglass patch was the correct answer. Sweet, game on to buy a mig welder and learn! Thanks all.

Try to make sure the fame is as true as possible before you start the patch job. Not sure how easy that is in Guam, but if in The States I would take it to a frame shop first and have it “gently” nudged back into shape as much as possible depending upon the condition of the frame.

There is also an auto hobby shop on base can't remember for sure but if so they could help you out pretty cheap.
