Rusty's 4" suspension lift

Rusty's 4" suspension lift
PB blaster and a BFH. :chug: A heat wrench can help also.;)

I got pissed at mine and took a cut off wheel to em, cut the heads off of em then the other end of the bolt sticking out, pried the shackle apart enough for the spring to drop then took a mapp gas torch burned the :dung: out of the rubber bushing, then finally beat the bolt and sleeve out with a drift and bfh. Happy ending = new grade 8 bolts.

Here is a pic this morning after getting the shocks installed. Haven't started on back, but it looks good right now. Tons of clearance on the 32's that are on there now. Kinda like the look, so wonder if I can keep the 2: body lift that is on there now. Changing already......;)

Pics below are from this morning, the steering rods with a standard pitman arm, and an innocent victim of anger and a 4" grinder with medal cutting blade (which took me 15 seconds to cut). Wish I had the grinder on Friday night!!!

Short update with pics to come later. Got the back axle lifted in about 5 hours doing it solo. Biggest time was backing out some of the u bolts and then cut them with the grinder, being sure not to cut the axle itself. All went well.

Few tips, have at least two sets of jack towers. Short set to hold the axle, long st to go under your bumpers.

Drove it this morning and it had some vibration in the rear. I still have the 2" bl right now and wondering if I pull that off, will it get rid of the vibrations. I did shim the back leaf springs, and reading that the angle from TC and from axle need to be close together. Sound right?

Thoughts?

Thanks again for all the help, learning a ton here. :notworthy:

Late with an update, but other issues brewed. :roll eyes:

I was able to get the shaking to stop for the most part, I took the degree shims out of the rear leaf setup and it seemed to help. (see pick below of the shaft) I know I can't run like this for ever, but until I have it built up enough to use as a daily driver, I can live with it this way. BUT, once I do start to drive it more, I'll be looking into a CV driveshaft to last longer.

Handling.....it drives tons better than before. It may just be the shocks since two of the four that I took off had no fluid in them and easily telescoped in my hand.

Last notes.....I'd buy it again, and I'd probably install it myself again.

One thing that I need to look at though is how the rear seems to be sitting up higher than the front....Normal?? (see pic)

Thanks all for the help. :notworthy:

Triman

Just looking at your front suspension and your sway bar angles are way out do to the lift.
The angle of the main bar at the frame rail needs to be a lot higher, most times when you do a lift and keep a sway bar you have to add an extension to the link that goes to the axle or in some cases you have to change that lower mount and weld a tab directly to the housing I like using the adjustable quick disconnects links from say JKS , check out there website.

Yes pretty normal. If you had a hard top on it it would be more level. You can put a little longer shackle in the front to try and even up some, but I wouldn't go too long.

My is a little high in the rear too but sits pretty good once it loaded up for the trail :)
