A few years ago I bought this CJ5 as a pet project. What I did not know is the really poor condition the jeep was in.

Someone did a home made over the axle conversion. The job was so poorly done, at they welded the u-bolts to the axles. The front axle looks like it is bent and the rear axle is a Dana 20 with no Limited slip.

I found out after I bought the jeep, that the guy own owned before I did drove it into a creek and may have bent the axle that way.

If this is just a hunting vehicle, then I don't see a problem as long as it gets you around the hunting area. If you want to fix it, that is another issue...

It's not difficult to fix a crappy SOA but it will take new perches as well as a little time with a welder and a torch or plasma cutter.

As for the front axle, is the tube actually bent or has it moved or slipped in the case? Many shops can press in and out axle tubes. Depens on the extent of the problem as to what the cure is... :)

If it has the stock narrow track axles then either upgrade to a wider stronger axle or replace with new narrow track axles. You can find narrow track axles cheap because not many people want them. But they may be good for your needs.

It sounds like you'd be better off getting rid of any mods the previous owner did and fixing things the right way.
