Hi, I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on seat covering material i have a 1983 CJ7 and the seats are in terrible condition i would like to cover them with a very durable material let me know if you know of anything Thanks

I purchased a pair of bestops seat covers a while back and they are ugly! they fit terrible, look terrible and feel terrible. pulled the seats out cover and all and stashed in the attic so nobody could see them. found some used mastercrafts on CL and never looked back.
If you want them they are yours for $25 and some postage, quite a salesman arent' I. :D

+1 on the bestop seat covers sucking royally. The ones I bought back in the 90's were cheaply made for the high cost, and they cracked and split after a short time. I felt ripped off.

I wish someone would make a good set out of thick marine grade vinyl! I'd pay over $100 for a pair of those!

ok their seat covers aren't as good as their tops. i have a pair of rugged ridge trail max seats, i like em and they are cheap. nice thick padding, real comfortable, they look great, and you can probably get a pair for what an upholstery shop would charge you to recover your factory ones.

I've bounced around the idea of buying a pair of those seats. How thick is the vinyl? I currently have a set of velure 1990 Mustang GT seat's that are really comfortable(At least Ford does those right!), but I want seat covers I can just towl dry and spong off if they get wet or muddy, and that I can remove if I don't plan to take the top down for long periods of time.

I was really disapointed in the quality of the bestop covers back in the 90's. They're just made of super thin vinyl with that fuzzy white backing that sticks out like a sore thumb when they cracked near the seams. In my opinion, they are no better than cheap $30 Walmart seat covers. With how good Bestop tops are, I expected much better than what I got from them for my seats. Maybe they've improved them since then, but in the new ads, they look like the same old crappy ones I had.

I'm also not inclined to buy neoprene seat covers because as an avid scuba diver, I can tell you flat out that neoprene isn't water proof!

Does anyone know of any company that sells good quality marine grade vinyl slip on seat covers???

vinyl feels pretty thick on em, padding is thick, they have a small side bolster, and seat bolster which is good, i don't like real big bolsters (im a big guy). im happy with em, i got em a little cheaper than most can because they are factory seconds, they have a minor blemish some where, my set was missing the hardware that bolts em together and the seat frame was scratched on the bottom.
