I just took out the "racing seats" from my 1976 CJ7 . Follow the CL link below to see them:

Racing Seats

I am having a hell of a time finding used direct replacement seats for a CJ7 . What seats have other people used in the past with success and as little fab as possible (actually, none, I don't have the tools or skills for that.) I want to keep the cost as low as possible for now. I don't care about low/high back or tilt seats.

Thanks!

How do you feel about Orange??:D

Honestly I think the factory seats feel better than my Best top Trailmax ones do. Yj seats will bolt up to your seat brackets so add them in your search as well. :)

I've got a set of XJ buckets I'm going to throw into mine until I find something better.

I'm going XJ because I already have them in the garage.

Will those bolt up directly to the CJ/YJ brackets?

Any seat should be able to bolt up. In general you may need to drill some holes in some 1/8th plate to make an adapter plate.

In my case, I removed the slider frames/bases from the XJ seats (4 bolts) and then used 1/8th plate and bolted the seats to the plate using the OE bolt holes in the seat. Then just drill holes in your plate to match your Jeep mounting holes.

Sometimes you get lucky and can just bolt the new seats directly to the old bases. I know alot of guys running other seats in their XJ's because they bolted the new seats to their old bases.

I really like my Mastercraft Rubicons

I hope I like my new Master craft Nomads.:D

they just arrived this afternoon. expect a full review.

The Bestop ones are alot like mine. Its not the reclining part of mine I dont care for its the overall comfort. They are quite firm to say the least.

From what I've read people aren't to happy with the Smittybuilt seats.

No just the aftermarket Bestop seats in a full vinyl without the recline option. Im not positive but Id bet they use the same seat foam. They seam pretty stiff to me. I'll be putting in a good 1200 mile round trip on them next month. I can update you then for sure. :)
Sorry are those factory?

I wanted to stay with the original seats, My problem is that the jeep was originally blue, but is now black. the seats were a blue denim vinyl and the passenger seat was torn and taped up. I took one to the local upholstery shop and was quoted $500.00 each. I don't think he really wanted to do it. I found this on ebay: New Upholstery Kit, Ready-to-Install, Enduratex Vinyl from autointeriorkits The seats are great, my only complaints are the hog ring pliers are very crude hard to use, and very hard on your hands, also the instructions are not specific to the vehicle set you order, but very general. All in all I like the results for less than a third of shop cost. Now to see how they hold up.

:)Hey Nice Job!

:D:D:D:D

That is a great way to go about it. I had a friend so it that way a while back. You just have to order the right part!

Good work there.

1966 CJ 6 build - Jeep-CJ Forums

:)Hi Troy..............how did yours work out in your build? I looked at your pictures the other day and they look to take up a lot of room in that area?

Of course you do have the advantage of being able to move yours back without cutting up a wheel tub as I would have to in my short CJ5 .........

Two question: It looks like trying to get into the rear tub area with the top on using the passenger side access may be tough as there does not seem to be any room between the two seats to squeeze through. And the other question was how about access to the under seat tool box? How are you dealing with that?
Thanks
