Not very useful when the doors are installed!

Those are indeed interesting copycats, I believe those holes below the front spring shackles are for a towbar. Those grabhandles probably work fine for shorter people.

The front shackles were adjustable.They boy told me that Mitsubishi made them from 1951-1983 and this one is a 1980 some thing.

If memory serves Mitsubishi made a licensed version of the CJ3b , probably added their own mods to it over time not to mention any aftermarket items added by the owners.
