so heres whats going on...searched cant find any info..pulled my engine....put in a motor i rebuilt....installed all belt drive parts from original motor...now its like i gotta adjust my belt every other day or it chirps? everything looks lined up? 1 idler looks a tad off but is spaced by a spacer that was never moved? anyone ever run it this? or can post some pics of your serp drive bracket..more on p/s side?..........oh 86 CJ7 AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l ...drove my original for 3 months before pulling motor..no problems w/belt..very odd:confused:
thanks

I have a serpentine belt equipped '86 and have not have had a problem except that I have to remove a idler pulley just to change a belt. It sounds like you have something moving somewhere like from a hold down bolt that is loose or looks tight but is actually bottomed out or a cracked idler pulley mount. The problem might be somewhere in the idler pulley system.

tripped over a pic from google search...and it looks like the bracket for the idler over p/s pump.....i have it in front of p/s bracket and it goes behind:censored: tweaking that idler just enough!! so ill change it today and see
tks

I replaced the Water Pump with one from NAPA and it may not be in line properly. I bought the more expensive Gates Belt and it chirped for a few days but has since quieted down and makes no noise at all, must have worn down the annoying part of the belt.

since changing bracket location...seems to b e holding up so far;)
