I have been doing some research and decided that I want an SM465 when I end up with my sbc. My current engine is the 2.5 backed by the puny T-4 . I am debating wether or not to go ahead and make the jump with the tranny even before I change the engine. Reason being, my T-4 is losing third as it is. Rather than spend money on another cheap tranny I thought if go ahead and invest in the 465. From what I can find its doable as far as pieces go just have to hunt them down.
Opinions?

Keep in mind that this will be the end result Transmission anyway, and it only costs me the bellhousing extra to do it now. I'm basically thinking if I like the carb mods and dizzy mods that I've done on the 2.5 I may end up keeping it until it dies.

The 465 has a nice low 6.55:1 ratio in 1st gear, and then later when you go V8 it will bolt right in AND handle the power.. there are some length differences over the yrs, so pay attention to what you buy, the later 465s have a longer tail shaft or output shaft. I just picked up a complete suburban, '87 w/TBI350/SM465/NP208 for 400 bucks, I'm just gonna put it all in...:D

Yeah, with the adapter from Novak it doesn't matter which one I buy since the output shaft gets changed regardless. I'm keeping the Dana 300 .
