SM420 locking in one gear

I drove my 74 CJ5 today and I got it in third gear and I went to pull into a store parking lot and went to down shift and just heard a grind and the Transmission was stuck in one gear. I don't know if it was the jolt of the jeep and my daughter kicking the Transfer Case shifter because of the speed bump in the parking lot or something with my shifter linkage. It has a hurst competetion/plus shifter also Dana 20 transfer. It took a smidgen of man handling and I got it to shift again but then I had to adjust the Transfer Case shifter to get it to go in gear. Hope this is just a fluke any thoughts? I did not put in the Transmission or shifter P.O. did it

ok so I cleaned the Transmission a little and found out its a ford top loader, so my question is where is the fill plug on the thing? I assumed sm420 by the shift pattern.

There is also a tube which I thought was the fill plug and it goes to the Transfer Case , would I unscrew that tube and fill from there? do they always have a tube going to the Transfer Case ?

 

[Shifter]

There should be a fill plug about half way up on the side of the Transmission . The tube you ask about I would guess to be the breather for the Transfer Case . Pics would help

well i think i narrowed it down to a clutch free play adjustment.
