Smog Pump Pulley

Howdy

I recently bought this 1980 CJ5 with a AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l and some other goodies. I am trying to get it ready for tags, but first I have to get past the smog Nazis!

When I bought the jeep, it had the air pump and all of its accessories attached except for a belt. I went to autozone and grabbed the belt I *should* need, but it is way to long. I poked around on Google and couldn't really find any pictures of the setup to see if it was correct or not. Here are some photos of mine, anyone know what is wrong or needs to be done?





Ill try to get some better pictures later. my guess is it has the wrong pulley?

Wrong belts numbers in the book is a common thing in my experience. Take a cord and wrap it around the pulleys, mark it then measure. (Do it both with the adjustment completely in and completely out.) The parts house will have something in stock that is close; give it a try.

Does the belt only run between the fan pulley and the smog pump? or does it go around the harmonic balancer as well?

that is the right pulley and it goes around all three.

After 5 runs to the parts store and a long piece of string, I got it! The outer diameter of the belt needed it 53", while the inner diameter is ~50".

FYI- That is not the case on the 304; one belt from the power steering to the pump on my 1972 CJ.

My 81 CJ7 with power steering has one belt from the power steering pump to the smog pump.

Heres a crappy pic but mine only goes to the power steering as well. My belt says "Matchmaker 10AV0635". Hope that helps.
