1982 cj7 with vortec 5.3, sittin on a 4.5" lift and 35's. This thing is nasty strong.
Hey guys and gals,
I have an 82 CJ7 that I did a 5.3 vortec swap in. Love the power but I am looking for an option for a snorkel kit. I don't want it to look all hacked together because she really does clean up well and is a very pretty jeep. Just wondering if anyone out here that has done this engine swap has any better luck finding one?

Might I inquire as to the reason for the snorkel? If it is for looks, the rest of what I say doesn't matter. Here is one for a YJ that should fit a CJ will little to no modification:

ARB Safari Snorkel for 4.0L Fuel Injected Engine - ARB-SS1000HF

If it is for a specific function, I think there are better options. My plans are to route the air intake through the firewall into the fresh air intake on the cowl. Here is what I plan on using:

Spectre Performance 9943 - Spectre Performance Cold Air Induction Filter System for 97-06 Jeep Wrangler TJ & Unlimited with 4.0L Engine - Quadratec

This should cut down on the amount of hot air being feed into the engine, and with the right filters should suck less dirt in. If your thoughts are for water protection, there is a heck of a lot of other things you will need to do to the engine. Basically small gas engines are not good for high water crossings. You also have to consider your axles, Transmission , TC, exhaust, and a bunch of other stuff.

Thank pb. I want it to function but this is also a daily driver so I am looking for a clean, good looking, but functional unit. I'm not using it as a submarine but I do like to bog with it. The last bog I went to I noticed that my air cleaner got pretty wet and I got concerned. At one point when I dropped down into the hole, I had water come up over the hood briefly. This snorkel would be more for insurance than anything else.:chug:

You didn't mention the most important item: the wiring. Submerging any vehicle to the point the entire harness is under water can lead to all sorts of problems, most especially if you have a computer controlled engine and still have some of the spade type connectors in the system. The Weatherpack/Metripack terminals are much better but still not fool proof depending on who put them together.

Something that folks can lose sight on when buying a snorkel, save for those of us that are former Marines whom have driven M151 jeeps. For fording not only the intake needs a snorkel......

when off loading from landing craft it ws important that the exhaust would be above water as well~otherwise it's similar to the old bananna up the tail pipe.

I like to yarn the tale of the procedure of driving these off the landing craft;
Note the two snorkels are above the cab? The driver doesn't get a snorkel (those are for the swabbies~just kiddin')
Before off loading you'd push the foot throttle down about 1/3 -1/2 and pull out the hand throttle, then stand on the body tub rail with your right hand on the steering wheel, and keeping your chin up!
Go figure, I always find a beachbreak hole~blub blub

This was the procedure even when my departed father was in the Marines;
