Some people eat when they're bored...some watch too much Netflix...some start exercising...and others get drunk...

I, on the other hand spend what some think to be too much on the CJ.

It started with a bumper from Dirtworx.

Then, I figured I'd finally chase down my electrical gremlins...that turned into ordering a Painless wiring harness.

New wiring harness turned into a new set of gauges from Speedhut.

Then, I figured I'd finish up my 351w that I put off working on. The short block has been sitting in the garage for a year. Ordered an intake, heads, timing, cam, lifters and gaskets.

Should be a busy few weeks!

Anyone else taking on more than what they normally would?

Heck to me it sounds like your uncle deposited that big check directly into your bank account and your spending it and more, like a drunken sailor on shore leave :)

Ha! Having spent 10 years at sea, I know what's that's all about, too!

Yea I spent money last week on a Transmission and this week I'm going to spend on some new gears for the Dana 300 . It is feeling neglected now.

So you found the social distancing rabbit hole LOL. Unfortunately, or fortunately, I haven’t noticed a big difference...... other than working from home and playing toilet paper roulette, it’s been pretty much business as usual.

I did, however, break down and order a new soft top, refurbished the hardware set, gathered all the nuts and bolts, and cleared out a spot for the hard top. You found the rabbit hole, all I found was maybe a small worm hole... LOL. At least it’s keeping you busy

haven't pulled the trigger yet, but I've been eyeballing a couple of different windmills.

Well, it was all going to happen eventually...now that I have the time on my hands, I can stop procrastinating.

With nothing else to do, I decided to rebuild my spare sm465. Dropped several bills on parts from Novak. After rebuild I will swap it in and then rebuild the one I swapped out.

Like Belizean, I need to replace my Dana 300 gears. I would really like to keep the stock low range ratio and get a brand new set of original Spicer gears. My gears are easily past the 200K miles and constantly stressed to its limits with my torquey engine. Without a question this is truly a remarkable well made gear case. Might have to bite the bullet and go with aftermarket 4.0 gears.

I don't know if you would be interested in mine. Had them since new. I know mine have almost no mileage if you are looking for original gears. I'm getting the 4:1 gears. Pretty sure we could work out something good for you and me

The money was already spent.
It just that some of it was still in boxes on the shelf.

One project led to another since replacing the camshaft around Thanksgiving.
Now with some extra time at home, it's back together and I was able to drive it for the first time since November.

Completed a Nutter bypass and refurbishing the wiring harness.
Finished repairing the floors and replacing the body mounts, rear cross member & shackles.
Refurbished and re-installed the steering column & dashboard & heater box
Seats & roll bar back in.

As a part of the Nutter Bypass I needed to get rid of the Carter BBD stepper motor controlled disaster of a carburetor.

Was looking at finding a Motorcraft 2100 and rebuilding it but couldn't ignore the 2 Barrel Chinese Carter knockoff.

New in box with free shipping $61.
I think it came all the way from Hong Kong at that price.
See last image above.

Wow !
So glad I didn't take on the project of rebuilding an old carb.
Started right up and runs great at all speeds.
Leaned out the idle a little and made a small adjustment to the position of the electric choke after driving it a bit.

Excellent post!
Is this the 1.08 venturi?

Did you need an adapter?

Thanks.

Re: Chinese Carter carburetor knockoff.

No adapter was needed for the base.

Attaching the air horn adapter was a pain because the white plastic vent, top front of the carb was interfering with the bottom of the chrome piece and blocking one of the screws.
(see the 4th picture above compared to the 5th picture carburetor ad, red maker on adapter where I had to tweak it to fit.)
In hindsight, I should have just drilled out the 3 rivets and capped the vent.
If it comes off again for any reason, I’ll remove the plastic part.

The diameter in the neck of the venturi of the new carb measures 1.215” although it’s difficult to get an accurate measurement with it on the truck.

The old Carter BBD that came off measures 1.063” dia. In the same place.

Drove the Jeep again yesterday from a cold start.
The start and warm up sequence is all working as it should.
Simply started it and drove away.
No coaxing it to start or waiting for it to warm up.

I believe my old Landcruiser is next up for a Chinese carburetor.

Good luck.

Thanks Cleg,

I thought that was a Motocraft 2100 knockoff, not a Carter.

It looks like they offer a Motorcraft 2100 replacement as well at a similar price.

The Carter knockoff that I bought is like an earlier Jeep carburetor and doesn't have the stepper motor.
