Soft Brake Pedal.

Soft Brake Pedal.
The brake pedal of a Waggy and a CJ are different lengths. The only measurement to compare is the distance from the fulcrum to the load point, which is longer on the Waggy pedal. Don't know what adapter you speak of. I am running a 95 YJ booster with the YJ mounting bracket. CJ booster setups were too expensive, and the YJ booster is a dual diaphragm.

I am at the point where I just have to pull the pedal out, modify it, and test. Bad thing is that the modifying is the easy part.

:)The adapter I refer to is used in various vehicles including many CJ's ( Look at the picture it's the bracket in Black....................not sure if the Waggy you had had the bracket or not..............normally the adapter is used to move the booster further away from the firewall because of a clearance issue and / or on Jeeps that had Hydraulic master clutch cylinders next to the booster that also needed that clearance............

The other reason I mention that is the adapter because of the linkage offset will also effectively change the pedal ratio.............in essence a pedal set that was for a non power brake which would be a net greater mechanical ratio could be used with a power booster as long as the adapter was used to correct or reduce the ratio....................sounds confusing until you have all the parts in front of you.

Now I know what you are talking about. The YJ uses a spacer, but the pushrod goes directly from the pedal to the booster, no other link. FSJ's are the same way as they never used a hydraulic clutch.

So I puled my brake pedal out. Actually did it without have to touch the dash or steering column. Just need a 3/4" ratchet wrench and some patience. Plus I removed the drivers seat so I could lay on the floor.

Anyway, pushed the stud out with my shop press, did some grinding, and moved it down an inch. Brakes work much better now.

The thing I did wrong is I put the stud back in the middle of the pedal (front to back). Moving the stud down reduced my pedal travel. I can still get the pedal to touch the floor, but it takes some serious effort. Before, it would go to the floor with ease. Still can't get the fronts to lock up on pavement, but the back tires do, with some serious wheel hop.
