1976 CJ5
Hey all, i have a 1976 CJ5 fiberglass body, steel windshield frame, i bought a new Supertop, everything went together fine its tight everywhere, no slack. The problem comes in is when its tight and tucked under the rails, the top pulls the windshield back too far, which in turn will not let the doors shut properly. I have talked to best top, 4wd hardware, jcwhitney, and nobody seems to be able to help. I tried to shim the windsheild between the cowl and that doesnt seem to work either. If anyone has any ideas/help I would appreciate it so much, the jeep is done except for this. So I am frustrated and out of ideas and patience! Thanks so much to anyone who replies!

I hate to say it but it sonds like that fiberglass tub
here is an idea, that top streches in the heat of the day
so maybe a bit of hair dryer and brite sun may get it to releive enough to get on, but then I do not know it the thing will relax when it is cold
another thoght, is that the origonal winsheild for that year jeep? I know on CJ5s they have different winsheild that can affect the size.

wow you are frustrated posting this in multiple places all over the place.
come on now, be polite and please post it once, not everywhere. You will get a better response.

Is there a gasket between the windshield frame and tub?
How old is it?
Also there should be 2 plates that lock the windshield in place to keep it from moving.

If the gasket is good and the plates lock the frame to the body.
My guess would be the fiberglass body is flexing and needs reinforcement.

IIRC , Bestop gives you a specific measurement from the windshield frame to the rear of the tub that you must meet before even starting. Did you do that?

Fiberglass bodies tend to be thicker than metal, so the outside dimensions are not always the same as stock (ask me how I know). Do as Pete said and check your dim. out.
Also with the supertop you can adjust the doors, if you haven't yet.

If the top is bending the glass tub as Broock said you may be :censored:
