Hey guys i have finally found out that it is not a good idea to work in -5 below weather....well the good news the carbs rebuilt and im in process of putting it back on (came inside to warm up so i could feel my hands again) the one of the two bolts holding it on takes about 20 mins to take on and off lol. then im going to drop the tank, finally i know ive been talking about this forever but on to the BAD news, i was curious if any oil had leaked out ya know as its been sitting, well i go to pull the dip stick out, and the little metal casing that is suppose to stay on the block decided it wanted to come with it so i dont know if thats fixable some input from you experienced jeepers would be nice...but a lesson learned work when the temp is positive

Corey it probably didnt break ,it just pulled out. Those tubes are just pressed in. You'll see a ridge on it to stop it from going in further. And as youve probably found out now , warmth and light make working on the Jeep a bit easier. ;)

Thank you Pete i just found this out like 10 mins ago i called my dad and he told me they just pull out ha, but the carbs on, in about 10 mins im going to freeze my <-BAD WORD-> off and drop the tank.

I had to RTV seal mine because it like to pop out alot. Plus a little oil will seep past the tube where it presses into the block now that it came out.

I can see where 5 degrees could make the dipstick tube contract a bit, the joke possibilities on this are tempting but I shall take the "high road". If you clean the hole and the tube well and put a little Locktite on the joint it should hold it.
Be careful with those hoses!! It may even be a good idea to warm them up with a heat gun or hair drier before you try to pull them.
