I just got off the phone with a guy that is selling a very nice 89 waggy near my home town, Mobile, AL. I contacted the listing the person gave me a Kentucky phone number so when the guy called me back I was like hey, are you in KY or FL cause the Jeep is listed in FL lalalala. He got pretty aggressive with his answer like I was out of line for asking and we moved on.

I then started asking the normal questions. He said he owned a Jeep dealership in KY and has a place in FL and he took it in on a trade and drove it himself. Then he said the engine only had 5k on it and so I asked if the original owner replaced it. He said he did it and that it was a 318..... A 318? My next reaction was is that a chevy motor or something. Again a belligerent answer. I said the 318 isn't an original motor those should have an AMC 360. He then proceeded to argue with me saying that chrysler owned jeep then and that GWs came with 318s or 360s (i believe he meant the chyco 360).

I responded that I have never heard of a 318 in any GW to which he got real smart and said well how many have you owned... Wrong question B-hole! I said if I bought this one it would be my 4rth GW and I have also owned a 76 Cherokee and an 80 cherokee. I know alot about these vehicles.

Anyway the guy obviously doesnt know what he is talking about. Probably lying about owning a Jeep Stealership, and he is definitely lying about putting the new motor in himself because a 318 wouldnt bolt up to a 360 tranny so it would have a new tranny as well.

Good looking waggy tho.

Not just you that runs into idiots. I was in a Jeep dealership one day. The sales manager came up to me and asked what I was interested in and I told him I had come to look at a 1999 TJ they had on Craig’s List. The guy looked at me and said, “The one with the square head lights?” I said no TJs have round head lights. This guy replied that TJs didn’t have round lights they’re square. We batted CJ, YJ, and TJ back and forth long enough that our voices were on the rise and we had drawn a crowd. I finally ask the guy how he could sell Jeeps if he didn’t even know which one was which, shook my head and left. I noticed all of the salesmen gave the guy a wide birth as he grumbled about me as he went back to his hole. What's that line frome the movie, "Stupid is, stupid does?"

Its not just the dealers. It is sad because there are tons of people who think FSJs and CJs are cool and one way or another acquire one, spend all kinds of money lifting them and modifying them with no idea what they are doing. Alot of the time these mods arent even safe or well thought out. Then turn around and try to sell them at a mint.

I wanted to eventually acquire a decent wagoneer but people seem to think they are gold. There is a guy on craigslist with an 88 wag that is smashed up and needs a ton of work for 4500 firm, because it is a classic original family SUV and bla bla...

A 318ci (assuming you didn't really know) is the small v8 that was common in lots of Dodge's, Chryslers, and Plymouth's during the 70's and into the 80's. Not an engine many modded, they just jumped to the 340ci.

lol someguy this reminds me of why i will never ever buy a new vehicle from jeep, i was looking to trade in my 04 nissan frontier since it was turning into a maintenance nightmare while i was working full time and still in college, so im cruising the mile of cars in norman oklahoma and i stop by the jeep dealership to check out the new wranglers (this was in 09) and i go to ask about pricing and trade value....all the standard :dung:.....the manager is sent out to me and asks what i want to buy, i tell him a new wrangler and before i can explain the options i would like he looks me up and down then glances behind me at my nissan and says "let me stop you right now, you cant afford a jeep." never again will i ever set foot in a jeep dealership or store. later that day i bought my 09 tacoma.

New wrangler are expensive, is like 40k or more for a decked out one, It's insane.

I'm with you here....many similar experiences, and mostly bad. And it this point, I really don't like to buy or sell anymore.....LOL...more headaches and BS than fun. :(

i agree but thats not the point. a sales manager should never even consider that type of behavior possible in a dealership.
