How do you all put jack stands in the rear of the jeep when removing leafs or the rear differential? In front of the forward leaf spring mount on the frame?
That just seems too close to center of the jeep. Lots of over hang?

The last time I did something like that was on an F250. We used two sets of jack stands, one set in front of the main eye for the leafs and another set under the back bumper.

That would be how I would do it for any vehicle, just for added safety.

Yea thats how I do it, never had a problem.

Would you feel comfortable with these?

6x6x12 kreosote treated railroad ties, not rotted at all, stacked 3 high. Crawlin' around underneath, banging around removing the u-bolts on the axle and removing the springs 'n such?

I have 2 jack stands but I want to use those for holding the axle while I rebuild it.

IMO thats not safe, the blocks could roll out on you. I would use some heavy duty jack stands. Harber fraight sells some pretty cheap.

True.

I'll just use my 2 jack stands under the jeep, & figure out something else for the axles.

thanks for the rational thought.

when working springs or axles I lift the entire jeep, both front and rear. Some habits we just do, but this one is so there is no ability to roll on tires that I started after a friend ran over himself in front of me. I decided to err to the side of safety from then on

you can never have to many jackstands. i have two sets. a small set for axles and doing stuff to the cars an a bigger set for the jeep and other things i need up higher. like said before, if you have a harbor freight by you, you can get the cheap. they sell SOME good stuff there for a good price.

10 x on the HF jack stands. I got two sets of 12 ton, I think. I can raise the jeep high enough I can set on the creeper to work. Jack stands are cheep at any price and will last forever. One of the best investments I can think of. I even let my kid brother borrow them for six months or so and he didn't manage to break any of them. they are pretty tough.

any time I have ever dropped an axle I set the jacks under the frame some place behind the balance point, block the front wheels. then I jack up the axle until the pressure is off the shackle bolts and pull those. then lower the axle and remove the u bolts and roll the axle out. the springs are easy after that.:chug:reverse to reassemble.
