79 cj5 258, t150, dana 20 transfer case, dana 30 front, 20 rear,warn hubs,2.5" procomp lift,teamrush,msd box,mc2100 carb,hedman header,clifford intake,optima battery, ford shock towers.
i took the cj to work yesterday. i havent had it at work since before i put the lift on it. been about three months. our jeep is far from nice. all day long i would look outside( remeber i work at a parts store) people where checkin it out. then they would come in and say whos old jeep is that. even though it is a rust bucket. i got all good comments on it. not one person came in and say whos rust bucket is that. just thought id share this with you guys.

Does make you feel good don't it.
My old CJ7 is far from pretty. Clear coat peeling off in gobs on the hood - rust specks on the chrome wheels - ill fitting, wrong style seat covers from wally world (had to have something to keep the duct tape from sticking to the seat of my pants) - some huisache striping on one side from a narrow road in Big Bend, and this kid at the tire shop looks it over, smiles, and says "Nice Jeep".
Made my day.

Everyone loves the under dog, and everyone loves a plucky survivor. In a lot full of new indiscript vanilla flavor cars, only a ratty little rusty CJ will draw attention like a sad puppy sitting there.:) It's been years now, but I had one of my old CJs in a parking lot one day and was talking to a buddy near it, when two old ladies walked by. They slowed down and looked inside the old heap and one of them says, That poor old thing. I laughed like hell!

i popped the hood at lunch when a couple of my garage guys came in. the where shocked when i showed them the motorcraft carb, gm module, ford cap and rotor, and blazer blower motor. they said they never saw or knew you could change so many things on a jeep lol.

I went to the grocery store with my step-son in the CJ earlier this summer. As we're getting out, a lady in her 50's comes out to get in to her convertable Mercedes. I mention to the kid that she's got a nice car. Apparently loud enough she heard it, she says "yeah it's nice, but I'd trade it for one of those". Feels pretty good, huh?

Every time I take mine to work, I get comments about it.
My bride works on the same base, but in a different division ( I worked over there for a while over the past year, so i have a few buddies there also). She mentioned that I was pulling the engine to one guy, and she had about ten others come over and ask why I was pulling the engine over the course of a few days.
Seems everyone thought that I was putting in a "big block" engine (since when is a AMC 401 a BB?) and wanted to make sure.
These were guys that never ask about the CJ when it isn't at work for months at a time...At least I know they are thinking of us...

The other day I was setting in front of the grocery store trying to figure were that $100.00 just went when a little girl and her mom came out of the store. The girl was about 5 or 6 looks at my Jeep and says “Look at the orange Jeep Mommy”. She may not have known a Mustang from a Camaro but she sure did know what a Jeep was.

Jeeps are an Icon of the American ability to excel.
If you read Jeep history you know it is the vehicle that almost never got made. Only one manufacturer answered the call from the army, and they rode in a few minutes before the deadline in a first off vehicle they spent everything on to get it there. Sad to say the Bantam car company did not get the bid. Willys did.
But it was the right vehicle at the right time and helped us win a war that will always be known as one of the greatest challenges we will ever face as a nation. The jeep was recognized as one of our greatest weapons in that war.
After the end of the war Jeep carved itself into the American (and world) mindset as the vehicle that could go anywhere and set up the entire 4x4 recreation explosion. They are identified as a part of Americana. One of the most recognized vehicles in the world. You can look at a 2009 JK and still see the original MB in the design, changes in styling come slowly and hard to a look that is a big part of the success of the vehicle.
Every man in this country has wanted a Jeep at one time in his life, It is part of our pioneer spirit to own a freedom machine. And one of the biggest demographic areas of ownership is under 30 girls so the pull on the feminine ownership seems as big as the masculine. Somehow this vehicle has carved a huge part of the heart of the American public and brought itself to a pedestal of desire few other vehicles obtain.
Not being a very utilitarian vehicle this has proven not to drive new sales strongly, but the desire to own still pulls. With the success of the current JK unlimited model that has 4 doors you see that changes in the utility of the vehicle is driving sales in a big way, having 4 doors is pushing sales in a large way as now you can have a jeep as not a second vehicle but as a DD that you can use with the children.
I think that owning an older CJ is part of the desire many men have as it shows they can own, work on, and keep up an American Icon. I get more commemts on my CJ6 or JK Unlimited than I get on teh TJ, even though the TJ has more money poored into it than the other 3 jeeps I own combined.
Yes Owning a Old CJ is a study in pride, keeping it up, rebuilding, finding a perfect one, what ever, you get a lot of comments and always see people walking over to and checking it out.

Yea you have to love old jeeps. When our club goes on trail rides there is always a lot more tj's and now we are getting more jk's, but when we all pull into a gas station or whatever, people will walk past them, and ask me about my cj and say "I like your jeep".:)

Gave the wife the TJ so I can Get a CJ...
Nuff said

lol that wouldnt work with me. the cj is actually hers. i just do all the playin in it :D.

lol....I think about them everytime I'm out. I'm always looking for a Jeep, then which model is it. I think my heart rate increases when I see a jeep, but races when I see a CJ (or older)! I see very few CJ's on the road, although I do pass a nice orange CJ7 , which always has the top half covered, on the way to work.
This is the high point in my 35 mile commute! I look for that CJ coming and going, but I have never seen it uncovered or moved. :jeeplove:

I know exactly what you mean, There is a cherry CJ8 sitting in a driveway in Mount Juliet. The owner used to drive it every weekend with his wife but it hasn't been moved in about a year or so but he will NOT sell it  :(

jeep are ruf n tough .They are symboled as the mark of a man. Every man in America has wanted a Jeep at one time in his life.
