I've noticed a few threads of the speedomter needle jumping as mine started doing last winter when I was struggling with other issues.
When I first got 'Black Betty' she had one of the VDO speedomters with no provision for a Brake light.

From the Jeep Service Manual I corrected this with the genuine article Stewart Warner Speedometer

Well, this one went with the cable going out which is a lesson to me as soon as the needle starts jumping around it can damage the spring internals to the point of no return;

Has anyone ever rebuilt one of these SW speedometers? The cost of a new one is out of reach for me and may be for some time and the internals are incompatible between my spare VDO and this one.

I have never had a old-school speedo apart.
Some 30 years ago, there was a speedo repair shop near where I lived at the time. Was run buy and older German guy that also did watch repair on the side. :D
Watched him take a few speedo's apart-I learned one thing from that.
I AIN'T GOT THE SKILLZ.........:eek:
It would be like me try'n to rebuild my Rolex. :rolleyes: :laugh:

You could call this outfit, and see what they have.

Good luck,

I rebuilt my 71 speedo from other known good parts. It would help to grabs some parts at your local pick and pull. I happen to know someone that made clocks out of the older speedos and sent me some parts to rebuild mine (in bag pic below). I also had a few extra speedos at the time. Fairly straight forward job.
