i finally got my 77 CJ7 back on the road again after 3 years and ive run into a speedometer problem. i got a brand new cable from 4 wheel drive hardware, marked with years 77-79 Automatic, anyway when the Jeep drives it bounces, like 35-45 just bounces like a ball... any remedies on how to cure this?

A gear is missing a tooth. As it rotates it can cause this bouncing.
Next question is what gear? That I can't answer. It could be the drive gear in the TCase tailhousing. that is easy to remove and inspect. If that looks good the problem is in the speedometer. You can't easily repair speedometers and it would need to be replaced.

now Busa, i drove her around today and one it got up to 35 and up it would stay steady.... what do you think now?

Even though you said you put in a new cable, pull out the inner core and run some graphite down the cable. Could be a rough spot in the cable sheath. That will make it jump around. I have seen that before.

Could have just been that the brand new cable needed to break in a little. I was pretty ticked when I noticed that my brand new Autometer gauge was bouncing and this was with a brand new cable and HD output which has a brand new gear.

Stopped doing it after a few miles.

Might check the routing too; make sure you don't have a tight bend in it somewhere.

I had that problem, found that the speedo cable was bad twisted at the Transfer Case . replaced the cable and it corrected the problem.
