Or where the cable goes into the speedo gear. You could remove the cable where it goes into the Transfer Case hook it to a drill motor to see if it registers at the speedo itself. This should tell you where the problem is located. Whether in either end of the cable, the speedo, or the nylon speedo gear.

I had the wife sitting in the jeep while I spun the cable from the Transfer Case . She said she heard it moving, but the speedo wasn't moving. I figured that I wasn't spinning it fast enough, so I ordered the gear. I pulled the old one out (looked great and new) and put the new one in. Still no dice. So I pulled the wire off the back of the speedo and watched it as I drove the jeep, it didn't spin. I gave the plastic tip a pull and this is what happened.
So I have a new one showing up tomorrow. That should fix it. Unless the speedo is broken.
