I am in the process of redoing a Dana 30 axle. The question I have is in regards to the proper install of the seals. A small v seal goes behind the spindle bearing does it go with the split side of the seal facing the spindle bearing or facing out. Next the bigger seal, does the small lip face the spindle or does it face out. Just can't get a good enough picture in the repair manual.

I just did one of these too.... and i cant recall :o

The small seal fits with the v facing the bearing. The bigger one faces with the bigger lip facing the spindle. Make sure you install the thrust washer with the chamfer facing away from the spindle, on the stub shaft.

This is a generic response but oil and grease seals nearly allways if not allways will have the seal half that contains the spring facing towards the grease/oil or whatever that is trying to be contained. The more flater side of the seal will be toward the outside environment.
