spring selection for fullwidth axles

spring selection for fullwidth axles
should axle wrap be something i should be concerned with? or is the extra fab something to be desired and better to add on now, instead of finding out later?

Yes.. The softer, longer & more flexy your springs are the greater probability of axle wrap you will have. It is compounded if you are sua compared to soa.

i read a post about a "bambar" but read futher that is puts a lot of stress on the springs?

how hard is a antiwrap bar to make. they look simple esp some with the bushings and shackles.

The best ones seems to have a single bracket with 2 mounting points near the pumpkin. On the axle side you can use regular bushings. The other end should have a Johnny style joint and connect to a shackle to a cross member.. In that configuration it will keep the axle from twisting and slow it to move back and forth when the rear axle move back under compression and still allow decent flex on the outer sides.

Here's a link to a shady style.. Principals are right but parts are :dung:.
Anti wrap bar

If you google and look for anti wrap bar jeep you should be able to find a lot better examples.

maybe i'm just not looking at this the right way, but doesnt the center pin on the leaf spring decide where the axle is located? if that be a true statement, wouldnt the xj springs take away wheel base since the eye to pin measurement is actually about a half inch farther forward than that of a CJ spring? or is this used because the front half of the spring is much longer and thus will clear the arch in the frame when the rear shackle is moved back?

someone mentioned moving the center pin, with an XJ spring, what would be the farthest back you could move that pin, safely of course?

i ask because i too would like to get a few extra inches out of my CJ5 wheelbase.

to the OP, they also make spring perches that give you about an inch of stretch and if money isnt as much of a problem for you as it is for me, custom leaf springs by Alcan.
