Misc starting issues'

My Jeep ('84 CJ7 Renegade , new AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l , rebuilt Transmission ) has been running great. Still have issues with fuel gauge although it is new and the sender from the tank is new, and the temp gauge isn't working. I thought it may be ground issues (it is a jeep). Well in trying to check grounds last night, something has gone wrong. When I go to start it, it will turn over, and over, and over but won't fire up. Fuel is reaching the carb. I put a tester light for the fire to the plugs (on a couple of different ones) and there appears to be no fire going to the plugs. Any ideas what I could have messed up? May be a short, don't know, but it is my main transportation right now as my adult kids are using my truck.

Check the coil and connection. I had one die this year for the first time. The primary was good, secondary was bad.

Did you have power applied at anytime you were checking grounds or was the battery disconnected? If there was power it's fairly easy to create a feedback short by removing a ground.
Do you have any spare modules / equipment and what specific ignition system are you currently using?

I by passed the ignition switch ran power direct to the hei via a switch, works perfectly.

Did you have power applied at anytime you were checking grounds or was the battery disconnected? If there was power it's fairly easy to create a feedback short by removing a ground.
Do you have any spare modules / equipment and what specific ignition system are you currently using?

Battery was on, trying to do a quick check to see if I put in a new ground the gauge would work. Not a great idea. It is the stock setup for the ignition system. No spare modules, may check the coil and put in a new module.

I'm hoping that a direct to ground path wasn't created but it sounds like it happened.
Jeep ground systems are notoriously sensitive.

How long does your Jeep sit between start ups?
Replace the coil with a screw terminal type.
That OEM horseshoe connector has a long history of connector issues.
Is the choke correctly set?
