"waggy"....short for wagoneer...
Call junkyards in your area. Or better yet, go to www.car-parts.com
You can do a search for yards nationwide. Not all yards put their vehicles and parts in this database, but it is a good resource. I usually start on the phone with a local yard or two at the same time utilizing that web site.
I dont know the dimensions on CJ5 's... I would "assume" the lenghts of columns, and "dash-to-firewall" distances are the same as a CJ7 , but I dont really know.
"BusaDave9" and "CJ" are walking databases for CJ5 info. Maybe one, or both will see this and give their imput....or try and PM them. (private message)
I've heard of others using GM columns out of camaros, firebirds, etc, but the threads I have read seem to be filled with issues of compatibility and fabrication. When I did mine, I was ALL ABOUT the direct swap... So I know there are columns out there you can use, it was just logical to me to keep it Jeep, and all mounting brackets, wiring harnesses were left untouched.
Good luck...

I just put a tilt column from a mid 70s Camaro (or Firebird) in my 75 CJ5 . There was a lot of trial & error fitting and adapting, but it fit pretty well when it was finished. It's not any shorter than the stock column though. I don't think the 75 and earlier CJ's had a tilt option, so installing one isn't as straight forward as in later CJ's.
