I have a 1978 Jeep CJ7 . It has a tilt steering wheel. I am trying to get the new bearing and race in to the upper bearing position. Not easy. Anyone done this? Any ideas? Thanks,
I figured it out. I put the bearing and race in the freezer overnight. Then I warmed up the column a little with a copper pipe brazing torch. Just a little. Probably only AMC 150 degrees. Then I LIGHTLY tapped the bearing in. The bearings have lightweight retainers and will not stand a full force blow. I know that from experience. I tapped with a punch on the outside retainer of the bearing. That is a heavier metal. Went in like butter.
