Steering/leaf spring question

Steering/leaf spring question
I have the same on my 79 CJ7 .
It is the extra heavy duty suspension, which could be factory ordered.
If you have in you VIN on the sixth digit an H, that means a
GVW rating of 4850, that is the XHD (extra heavy duty) version.
In general the sixth digit say:
A 3750
E 4150
H 4850

Nice to have info! Thanks :chug:

Ugh! :censored:

My 6th character is an E - but I have these springs (as pictured earlier in the thread). Nothing ever make sense with these things.

Just dug a bit into it...

At least the two pictures for the front and rear springs show These
additional leaves. Looking into the parts list shows that the two first
springs have a seperate part number.
List below is for the front springs, 80 means CJ5 , 90 means CJ7 ...

So I would ask anybody who wants to know to try to assemble this puzzle
for himself, the info should be complete here now.

:D

First of all - thank you, but now I have more questions bouncing around... It seems these are assembly numbers, not part numbers...

If I read this right - for the front - everybody had a 11.072-1, but NOT everyone had a 11.072-2. And 11.070-1a is the pack of remaining springs regardless of number (0-5 theoretically).

What I don't see is how any of these numbers correlates to the breakdowns listed on the last two pages...

As an example take my 1979 CJ front springs, what posssibilities do I have?

So for the soft version, the leaf with the eye should be included in the assembly,
for HD and XHD not, there extra leafs have to be added.
Nevertheless, it is not 100% clear for the HD with the double wrap.
But it should definitely be clear when counting the number of leafs alltogether,
there should only be 4 or 7 or 9...

I have a 77, V8, 6th digit E. I have 11.072-1 and 11.072-2 so I have those 2 plus 4 other leaves to make 6?

I'll check when I get back to the house.

Just crosschecked it in the garage, I have 6 leafs (thought I had 7).
So in the hurry I messed up the years on the one hand, additionally
the XHD was for export only, so please disregard my first drawing.
It should be like that:

If I now read it correctly, the E should have 7 leafs from 76 to 78
and 6 leafs from 79.
But it also says that \76 without an end, so maybe both possibilities were available.

Sorry for the confusion...

So finally the count should be 4, 6, or 7, correct?

Sorry for the S L O W reply, I've been in a few messes here as of late.

I have 7 springs

I have a sixth digit E and 7 springs total. Oh well, that's either good or weird or both I guess.

I think that this is conform to the books...
77 with 7 leaf springs fits in the category from 76 on the very right...
7 springs in total with 2 special ones included
