:)The U-joints in your front axles..............at the spindle where it turns.

:D:D:D:D

Are these u joints difficult? I'm a little timid to do this job, more so getting to the knuckle. Are there seals to replace in axle when it comes out?

:)Not really...........seals are inside near the punkin and are more challenging to replace. The front axles come right out.

You need to pick up a few books and start reading.........a good one that covers mostly the 1946-71 CJ's is the Jeep Rebuilders Manual by Moses Ludel but I believe he also did a later version.....good stuff plenty of pictures.

This would be a good time to replace the spindle bearings and seals, since you have it apart anyway.
It's not that hard to do just a little time consuming, I have a ball joint press if you want to use it.
Here's a link to the FSM that will tell you how to do it. http://www.civilianjeep.info/84-86FSM/CJ-FSM-84to86.pdf

Yep ,get the wheel free hangin off the ground, and check for play at wheel hub, ball joints, etc. Fix then align
