After looking through the latest Summit catalog Im seriously considering a Chevy drivetrain in my next project. The prices for some of them are low enough its hard to justify a total rebuild on a 360. If I went that route I was thinking of grabbing something with no drivetrain like this:

Pretty much all of the below. How do you think I have so many posts? Random brain farts exit through my fingers. got a smiley for that? :D

350 FTW. But beware. I went that route but my hot rod junkie in me put me north of $4500 on the engine rebuild alone. Summit and Jegs are very addicting catalogs. Oh and don't forget the Edelbrock website. They have awesome side by side dyno chart and engine set up comparison using there components of course. But I went that route anyway with Performer aluminum heads, air gap intake and there spec cams. It's a win win when you know exactly what the outcome will be. Ohh I think I am getting excited now. Tell you what. Come on up to CT and I will loft a couple of wheelies for you and then you will be sold on this route. I can even pull the front up hitting second gear.

Now your thinking Pete, Just don't go nuts like kane and your be ok.:chug:

I just read an article in Peterson's, or was it 4Wheeler, one of those rags. Anyway it talked about how a crate engine isn't always the best option. Like Kane hinted at, a crate engine can seam like the simple answer, but when you start adding peripherals and brackets and ignition systems and so and so forth, the end price ends up being a lot more than the initial $1500 crate engine. When you really sit down and starting adding the numbers up, a full rebuild of an already intact engine is probably going to be cheaper in the long run.

I was in love with the Summit catalog myself about 12 yrs ago when I was into Camaros. I bought a crate 383 but sadly never got to use it due to a divorce. :mad: Wheelies sound almost woth the ride to Ct. but not in this weather. I'll wait till it warms up and that way the pesky top wont ruin my view of the sky.:punk: As for the Edelbrock site does that work with t-cases and such in 4wd? One thing I hate about the crate motor advertising is its all peak hp and torque ratings. Im interested in lower rpms not 3600 and such. They have a "truck" one advertised also but top hp is only 200. Thats barely above a stock 360.

I probably wont go all out with the $13300 Merlin 572 , but somewhere a wee bit South of that. :D

When you started out quoting magazines I almost stopped reading , but it was you so I continued on. :D I get what your saying there. Unfortunately Cj8s came with the AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l or the GM 151 4 cyl. Im not slamming the AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l , but for my wheeler I want 8 cyl. So if Id find an 8 cyl one its probably someone elses cobbled mess. Id also like it when its all said and done to have the majority of its components new or rebuilt. Its not gonna be cheap , but this is why Im throwing out my ideas so I can filter out the bad ones through you guys. :notworthy:

Edelbrock does on their work on an engine dyno so those numbers are crank HP. Plus they show the whole curve for the rev range. The techs have good knowledge as I talked to them about head and intake choices. The performer Heads are meant for low end torque and real world HP in the 1500 to 5000rpm range. The performer RPM heads are for the drag racers. My engine has some serious throttle response and snap when I hit the go pedal. I built the motor with torque in mind. The motor pulls hard from idle to about 6000 rpms and then it tapers off. The performer heads with a good medium lift cam that has a mild duration will give you great power. You do not need a radical cam and you dont ewant one for a real street motor anyway. Get a good set of heads, match it to a good carb and exhaust and leave the cam mild and you will have a real serious street/off road motor.

The "thanks" was for helping me spend more money before its even here. :D Just kidding , I'll have to check that dyno out. Thanx for the info.

I beleive its the comprehension part thats your problem. :D

Sort of yeah. they have power package deals where they show you exactly what part number of their parts of course to use and then they show you the output that they got on their motors. i had them send me the full catalog which had a ton of info. I am not sure if the site show everything or not.

That sounds pretty much lickable :) I have a buzz. :)

Figured youd like that. :rock::punk:
you are taunting me aren't you. I have tickets for February. Oh what a violent fun night that will be. :chug:

I love summit, I just sometimes wonder what it could do to a credit card if I bought everything I wanted in one order. I think you would see Wall Street cause the market to go up 100 points.
