One of the items I need to finish my '76 CJ5 's resto is a factory roll bar. '76 through '77 (IIRC) have bars that bolt to the rear wheelhouses and through the upper part of the tub. Later versions' risers bolt to the floor behind the seats and the rear supports bolt to the rear of the wheelhouses. I have had no luck whatsoever finding a 76/77 bar, but I now have an offer on a good later style one.

Wonder if anyone knows if I can get it to fit? Looks like I may have an interference issue with the Bestop seats that are in the rig now. I like that it has mounts for shoulder harness, rather than just lap belts.

You can expand your search to year 78, Mine is the type that bolts to the top of the wheel house and through the side of the tub.
Good Luck.
I do remember seeing a pile of them on a Jeep wreckers(part out site) online but can't remember who or were they were located, try a google search?

Thanks. I did some measuring and learned that the later style won't work due to the seat backs. I checked with Collins Bros. and they had quite a few. He wanted to sell me the later one and was surprised to learn it wouldn't fit. He's looking for a '76 for me.

Thanks. It has a custom made roll bar in it now but I want an original for the restoration. It appears the 76 - 78 CJ5 roll bars were the same, bolting through the top of the wheelhouse and through the sides of the tub.

Actually the bars changed part way through the 1978 model year so not all 1978s will work.

Thanks, that's what I read somewhere. Does anyone know what they changed with the body to allow the later bar to be installed?

Do you still need a stock roll bar? I have a 76 CJ5 with a stock roll bar. I am looking for a full cage. willing to trade, depending on location.

I have one in my shop, but you won't want to pay for the shipping on something like this...

There is an over the fender model with the addition of a front hoop and stringers on the Denver CraigsList for only $75

Here is the link:

Roll cage for a 1976 CJ7

If you live in the 4 corners area of CO/UT/AZ/NM then it might be worth the drive. It is from a 76.

I have the same one in my rig.
