Hey everyone,

I recently got myself a Jeep CJ7 and was wondering if anyone here has any experience or knowledge about engine swaps using modern engines that meet post-Euro 3 standards (european regulations). I'm based in Spain and haven’t been able to find much clear info on the topic so far.

Any info, experiences, or references, whether from Spain or elsewhere in Europe, would be super helpful. I’d really appreciate it if anyone has done something similar or knows about it.

Thanks a lot!

:welcome:

While I am not familiar with European specifications there are many CJs on the road using modern running gear. Do you have any specific swap in mind such as number of cylinders and Transmission ?

Just returned home from a couple weeks in Spain. Truly fantastic vacation - beautiful scenery, architecture and friendly people.

For the motor swap, I’d look at a Mercedes diesel. Lots of em over there, so parts are aplenty and meeting the EU standards should be easy. Adapting to the Transmission should be considered though. Contacting Novak Conversions should be one of your first tasks.

There’s a guy over in the Aragon region that has a Scrambler ( 1 of 2 in Spain) and I think also a CJ7 . I think he’s done or has an Isuzu C240 Diesel . I bet he has a lot of info if you can find him.

Well I didn’t go back and read his story again, but he has done frame up i believe and has been driving around. Looks like maybe he went with a 4.0 L maybe. His skill level is good. He took either a CJ7 hard top or YJ hard top and chopped the back off and shortened it for a CJ8 top. The top looks better than a factory 1/2 top for a CJ8 .

These are pictures of pictures of the top. I was just looking at a recent picture. It looks better than new off a showroom floor. IMG_4108.webpIMG_4107.webpIMG_4106.webpIMG_4105.webp
