I am looking at buying a rebuilt rear axle. The seller says the one piece axles were replaced with two piece ones, new bearings, all new brake components. And the ratio is 3.73. I assume that means the gear ratio. How do I determine whether that will match up to my front gearing?

One of the seals and the pinion seal need replaced on my current setup and I think it wont be much more to just get the new axle. I also would like to get rid of the lockers on my axle since I use it as a daily driver. Is there a market for a used locker? I'm hoping to offset some of the cost by selling it.

Did you mean the 2 piece were replaced with the 1 piece? The 2 piece shafts were original.

The only sure way to check matching gear ratio is to pull the cover and look at the ring gear where the ratio will be stamped

There is a market for used lockers, more so for aftermarket then factory LS.

Oops. Yes, the two were replaced with one.

What front end ratio would be compatible with a 3.73?

The front and rear need to be the same ratio, so 3.73

Seems like it would be easier and cheaper to just replace the couple leaking seals.

That is sort of like shooting a horse because it got a splinter.

You can jack a front wheel and Transfer Case in neutral. Have a helper rotate the wheel one revolution. Count the number of rotations the drive shaft turns. Theres you ratio. It's going to be 3.73, 3.54 or 4.27. It's close enough to ballpark it. The best way is to pull the cover but that takes way longer.

If you pull the cover, take a photo of the locker and post it. Someone on this forum can tell you what you have. Factory lockers are Limited slip and OK for the street. Not much for hard off road. No very valuable.

An aftermarket mechanical locker in good shape can be worth a little more.
