I removed my leaking tank today (all bolts rusted through). I labeled all lines that came off the tank so i could replace in correct locations, but on my sending unit there are two nipplesand the nipple on the right had a piece of hose on it but only about an inch.
So here's my question, Where does the second line go?

You need to fill out your profile so we know what you are working on. That makes it easier to give you the correct info.

I believe you are talking about the return line.?

you will be able to tell which is which when you pull the sending unit from the tank. the longest one is the fuel pick up and the shorter one is the return. they are also different sizes but I do not remember which size is which.

If you need a new tank you need a new sending unit / fuel pick up.

From what everyone has told me (and thanks by the way), the hose in question is the return line. Where should the return line come from. Since it was cut or tor or rotted off, i cant trace it back. i would like to replace the line so that im sure everything is operation and running correctly.

the line appeared to be rotted off. it wasnt plugged.

The hose should go to your fuel filter over-flow tube. I have a fuel filter with an over-flow tube that's above the exit tube on the filter. This tube is used because I have a mechanical fuel pump. When the carb float is closed. The excess fuel is ported back to the tank so the fuel pump doesn't blow its seals.
An Electric fuel pump has an internal pressure regulator and doesn't need a fuel tank return line.
If your fuel pump is mouted to the side of your engine. Its probably mechanical and you'll need to use a three tubed fuel filter. If it's inside your tank with your sending unit, It's electric and you can cap the tube on the tank so vapors don't escape.

Nice Pics. I must have an old tank, because I have two valves in the tank of my 84 CJ7 .

fuel line sizes should be 5/16 to the pump and 3/8 back to the tank. 3/8 equals 6/16, so you could prob use 5/16 for all of it

Just a thought, I would use the 3/8. Just thinking out loud but sometimes a tight/tighter hose will over the years crack prematurely with rubber, but we aren't talking a big difference.

I might be dropping Peaches tank next week/new sender as well (20 gal).

i looked on ebay, and got 25 feet of 5/16 and 25 feet of 3/8 for a total of 26 bucks. had it in 3 days. from some place in indiana. now if morris 4x4 will get me my sending unit, i can get dirty

I ordered mine two days ago from Q-Tech, should be here Saturday. Didn't know where to buy & I didn't want to go w/a Crown mfg. Couldn't get a clear answer if the Q-Tech was crown or not.

Who is the mfg that morris offers?

doesnt say, still waiting. usually have good luck with morris but spent 20 minutes on hold today and still didnt talk to a human. sending unit kit was 25 bucks. just trying to get the cj running so i dont have to drive the wifes escape to work.

Got it.

If you would, post the MFG of your part from Morris & I will post the MFG from Quadra Tech.

This way others would know the MFG of QT/Morris if interested.

Just a thought,

Part # 5357373K . they dont have the mfg name. gonna stop ordering from these guys cause they are pissing me off

its got the same part number as the quadra tech one for the 15 gallon tank.
